Keep It Around Your Neck

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

As if the snowboarding athletes haven’t done enough to convince us mere mortals that they do not conform to any rules of conduct we present to you U.S. bronze medallist Scott Lago. Scott voluntarily left the Vancouver games on Friday after risqué photos of him surfaced on TMZ’s web site.

Apparently after winning his bronze medal Scott went out Thursday night to party with some of his teammates when photos of him were taken with a young woman kneeling in front of him kissing his medal below his waist. Needless to say the Olympic committee frowned upon this behavior and so Scott voluntarily departed the Vancouver games on Friday. What can I say about this type of behavior? Come on guys, you are on a world stage for two weeks. Great representation of the U.S.

Lindsey Jacobellis Doing Things Her Own Way

Friday, February 19th, 2010

You gotta love the snowboard culture. The jeans wearing, flannel shirt, anti-establishment persona seemingly all snowboard athletes seem to convey. Snowboarders do what they want when they want and even gold medal Olympic ambitions aren’t enough to convince some to put all the hot dogging and grandstanding on hold and just focus on the task at hand.

Lindsey Jacobellis seems to personify this snowboard culture to a hilt. You would think that after her Turin run should would have learned but I guess not. As in Turin four years earlier Jacobellis could not resist attempting a trick on her downhill run, and, to put it mildly, ate snow. Then again in 2006 style and flare prevailed in her mind, as another flub would cost her gold. And now in 2010 on a disqualified run Jacobellis decides to grab her board and showboat for the crowd finishing in fifth place. I guess these snowboarders like to do things their own way, but at what cost?

For Lindsey Jacobellis I guess style is all that really matters. What do you think?

Men In Tight Pants

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Who thinks tight pants on a man is offensive? Well apparently Nate Holland, a member of the United States snowboard team thinks so. This winter Olympic event he concedes now resembles more of a trendy fashion show rather than the anti-establishment snowboarding roots. According to Holland the de facto snowboarders’ uniform should always be the flannel and jeans look.

Establishment, anti-establishment, what’s the difference? Team USA is fully sponsored by the likes of Nike, Microsoft and Visa. Get over it Holland! Besides I like my man in tight pants every now and then.

Olympic Experience Through Different Eyes

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

What’s it like to experience the Olympic games at the age of 15? Well for starters all you have to do is ask Scott James the teenage Olympian competing in the Vancouver games in the snowboarding event. Clearly for him he is more interested in “checking out the babes” rather than sizing up his competition. Well, who could blame him? There are a lot of hotties in this winter Olympic event. But seriously, when you think about his age, Scott has the unique opportunity to participate in two winter games while still in his teenage years. That’s amazing!
